American Airlines Expands Preflight COVID-19 Testing For All Domestic Flights with Travel Restrictions

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News) – American Airlines passengers traveling to any U.S. city, state or territory that has COVID-19 travel restrictions will now have access to at-home testing.

The move comes as COVID-19 metrics are spiking nationwide and states are beginning to re-impose out-of-state quarantines for visitors.

The Fort Worth-based carrier is the first airline to introduce preflight COVID-19 testing within the United Sates.

American had been offering the preflight tests to places such as Hawaii, some Caribbean countries and the United Kingdom.

The airline said it will provide passengers with access to LetsGetChecked for all domestic flights.

The at-home kit is a nasal swab and PCR lab analysis. According to the LetsGetChecked website, the kit retails for $129.

The lab provides results within 48 hours upon receipt from the facility.

American’s Chief Customer Officer Alison Taylor said American is paving the way for other airlines.

“We’ve made great strides to help open international travel with our testing partners, and we recognize the need for similar domestic travel solutions,” she said. “As travel requirements continue to quickly evolve, we’re simplifying the research and COVID-19 testing fulfillment process for an overall more seamless travel experience.”

The program rolls out Wednesday, December 9th and testing officially begins Saturday, December 12th.

American Airlines also offers passengers the option to take an onsite rapid test or  get tested at CareNow urgent locations across the Metroplex.
