
WASHINGTON (AP) – America’s employers scaled back their hiring last month as the viral pandemic accelerated across the country, adding 245,000 jobs, the fewest since April and the fifth straight monthly slowdown.
The stats from the Bureau of Labor Statistics today [Friday] was 224,000 fewer than economists had expected, as the job recovery continues to slow.
The unemployment rate inched down to 6.7%, from 6.9% in October.
At the same time, the unemployment rate to a still-high 6.7%, from 6.9% in October, the Labor Department said. November’s job gain was down from 610,000 in October.
Meantime, the number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits fell last week to a still-high 712,000, the latest sign that the U.S. economy and job market remain under stress from the intensified viral outbreak.
For the first time since the covid pandemic forced millions of layoffs earlier this year, the DFW area has cut year-over-year job loss to under 100-thousand.
Stats from the US Department of Labor show that about 62-thousand jobs were added to the economy across the metroplex in October.
New York for example was still lagging by a million jobs in October over the same period last year … Houston was still down 151-thousand jobs.
