DFW Hospital Council Concerned about Shrinking Capacity, Staff as COVID-19 Cases Rise

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – A rise in COVID-19 cases is taking its total on North Texas hospitals.

Per Governor Greg Abbott’s executive order, COVID-19 restrictions and closures come with a COVID-19 hospitalization rate of 15%. DFW Hospital Council CEO Steve Love said Thursday that the trauma service area that includes the metroplex is getting close to that mark.

“We’re right at 14%,” he said.

Love’s biggest concern is staffing at local hospitals.

“Our staff is fatigued,” he insisted. “They’ve been at this since March, and they’re really concerned about seeing a lot of people not wearing masks.”

Love warned that based on current trends hospital capacity will get worse before it gets better.
