Report: Pfizer Selects Texas for COVID-19 Pilot Delivery Program

NEW YORK (WBAP/KLIF) – Texas is among several states involved in a pilot delivery program aimed at getting a COVID-19 vaccine to American citizens.

According to Reuters, Texas, New Mexico, Tennessee and Rhode Island were chosen due to their size, population diversity, immunization infrastructure and need to reach people in both rural and urban settings.

The list doesn’t mean participating states will receive the vaccine before any other states, Reuters reported.

Pfizer moved stock markets last week when it announced it’s COVID-19 vaccine candidate was shown to be 90 percent effective based on early testing.

Some scientists expressed concern over the temperature at which Pfizer’s vaccine must be kept.

Reuters reports it must be kept at minus-94 degrees Fahrenheit and most vaccines can be kept at 36-46 degrees.

That could present a problem for hospitals, doctors offices and pharmacies that may not have the cold storage space needed.

There’s no word on the timeline of the pilot program.

Meanwhile, this week Moderna announced its vaccine is 94.5 percent effective and can be stored at a regular refrigeration temperatures.
