Gov. Greg Abbott is alerting all Texans within 100 miles of hurricane Laura’s projected cone to take precautions as the storm moves closer to the Texas Gulf.
Hurricane Laura is expected to make landfall Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.
Mandatory evacuations have been put in place for Jasper, Jefferson, Newton, and Orange County along with the cities of Port Arthur and Galveston, Abbott said.
Gov. Abbott is asking anyone looking to shelter from the storm to consider using hotels in order to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.
Hurricane Laura is expected to be a fast moving storm with high winds as a main threat to Texans.
Gov. Abbott has deployed around 200 buses and more than 150 high water vehicles in response to the storm.
A disaster declaration been issued for 59 Texas counties.
