FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF)- UNT Health Science students will get paid to help Tarrant County with Covid-19 contact tracing.
The UNT Health Science Center in Fort Worth is partnering with the Tarrant County Health Department for the program and each student will get paid $35 an hour.
David Mansdoerfer with The UNT Health Science Center said they’re in the process of selecting 90 students to participate.
“If someone tests positive and that information has been sent to Tarrant County Public Health, our students will be helping them work through where they have been, who they have been in contact with to make sure we can provide that information to help slow the spread of Covid-19,” said Mansdoerfer.
He said selected students will get valuable training while helping the county stay on top of the virus. “By being able to trace where people have been will help us better understand and limit additional spread,” he said.
Tarrant County Commissioners set aside almost $2 million to fund the program.
The contact tracing work is expected to begin September 1st. Students will train and participate in an orientation before they begin contact tracing. Students will work through December 30th, when the contract ends.
The jobs are remote and the hours are flexible, allowing students to balance their tracing duties with their academic work and training.
