(WBAP/KLIF) — Washington is gun shy to pull the trigger on a new multi-trillion dollar Cares Act package. The battle over the amount of a Coronavirus aid package continues on Capitol Hill.
Republicans were pushing for a $1-trillion package, while Democrats wanted somewhere around $3-trillion. According to Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Democrats wanted the additional money to bail out blue states that are billions of dollars in debt. He also says that 75% of original Cares Act money approved in March remains unused.
The stalemate between the two parties has forced the White House to issue executive orders to provide relief to Americans. President Trump signed orders to expand eviction moratoriums, provide $400 in unemployment bonuses, and a wage tax break for Americans.
Patrick says instead of following the Democrats desire of approving a new multi-trillion dollar Cares Act, Republicans are looking at an alternate route that better utilizes the money already approved in the original Cares Act passed by Congress in March.
Patrick argues that Democrats are trying to provide bailout money for democratic states that are billions of dollars in debt, such as New York, New Jersey, and California.
