One Dead in Shooting Incident at Protest in Downtown Austin

AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF NEWS)- A Black Lives Matter protest in Austin Saturday night turned deadly after a suspect opened fire on the crowd of people, killing one.

Austin police responded to the incident at around 10 p.m. near 300 congress avenue between third and fourth street. Police reported Sunday morning that the victim was carrying a rifle when he approached the suspects vehicle, the suspect then fired out of their car at the victim. The victim, who has been identified as Garrett Foster, was taken to a local trauma center with life threatening injuries, where he later died. Nobody else was injured in the incident.

The suspect has been detained and is now cooperating with officers. No further information has been released at this time.
