FWISD Releases Plan, Guidance for In-Person Classes Starting August

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF)- As Dallas County announced in-person learning will be postponed until September 8th, the Fort Worth ISD releases a plan and guidance for in-person classes starting August.

The district is still giving students and parents the option for in-person or virtual learning for the 2020-2021 school year, but the new school year will be unlike any other year in FWISD history.

The plan for in-person learning will include staff and students to follow current face-covering guidance, desks will need to be spread out and barriers will be used where appropriate and cleaning protocols will be increased.

According to the District, with the online learning plan, teachers will have planned availability for students with scheduled office hours, students will be able to get teacher support when needed, and students will receive clear, understandable directions on a daily basis on how to use academic materials.

“We believe the best place for a child to learn is in the classroom with a teacher. We also know our current public health crisis is making that a challenge. As of now, we plan to offer both in-person and virtual learning to our students,” said Superintendent Kent P. Scribner.

Chelsea Baldwin Deputy Executive Director for the United Educators Association said the situation is fluid and based on data, believes Tarrant County will follow Dallas County’s order.

“I think you will see some changes come into play once the County Health Department and Commissioner put out a statement this week,” said Baldwin. “There’s no doubt that our educators, students and parents want in-person learning but they also don’t want to put anyone in harms way,” she said.

The District said online instruction for 2020-21 will be robust, organized, and a consistent experience for all students. For those who choose in-person learning, the health and safety of students, teachers, staff, and the community will be a priority

The District will hold two virtual town hall meetings, on Monday, July 27 and Tuesday, July 28 for parents, teachers, students and the community stakeholder to ask questions and hear from District leaders on plans for the 2020-2021 fall semester.

Each meeting will start at 5 p.m. and continue to 7 p.m. The Zoom webinar will be simulcast on the Fort Worth ISD Facebook page as a Facebook live event.

The Monday, July 27 meeting will be available here.

The Tuesday, July 28 meeting will be available here.
