AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – A White House document prepared for the Coronavirus Task Force shows over 120 Texas counties, including those in the DFW metroplex are COVID-19 “red zones,” which mean areas that have reported new cases of about 100 per 100-thousand people in the last week; or a positivity rate over 10%.
According to a spokesman for Vice President Mike Pence, the report was shared with Governor Greg Abbott’s team, and recommends additional restrictions to curb the spike in coronavirus cases.
The additional restrictions, some of which have been implemented by Governor Abbott includes closing bars and gyms, limiting gatherings to 10 people or fewer and emphasizing outdoor restaurant dining.
The previously unpublished report was obtained and published by the Center for Public Integrity in Washington Thursday.
The new report offers three colors — red, yellow or green — as a way to illustrate the severity of COVID-19 for the 50 states and Washington D.C.; 18 other states are on COVID ‘red zones.’
Abbott’s office did not respond to questions about the report late, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
