Austin, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – The Texas Workforce Commission addresses questions about over-payments of unemployment benefits.
In a Facebook post TWC spokesman Cisco Gamez addressed a Houston Chronicle report which brought to light a 1978 judicial ruling stating that over-payments caused by TWC error do not have to be repaid.
Gamez had said in a previous post that “all overpayments had to be repaid.”
An example of a TWC error is using another person’s income to determine eligibility, or failing to input disqualifying wages like Workman’s Comp reported by the claimant.
Gamez said that overpayments are rare for TWC. He cited a 2019 federal audit shows that shows only 1.27% of the agency’s 3.7-million claims were overpaid.
