Dallas Area Hospitals are at 68% Capacity

(WBAP/KLIF) — The latest hospital capacity report in Dallas shows 68% of all beds are in use. Of the nearly 6,100 beds, just over 1,900 remain available. However, hospitals are using just over a third of available ventilators.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins feels the slow return of drive thru test results is hampering effective measures.  He says the federal government should provide more money for local labs to process tests.

Dallas area hospitals are also at 75% capacity for I-C-U beds during the pandemic.  25 area hospitals report that only 249 intensive care unit beds are open to patients.

With hospitalizations doubling in June, Jenkins feels more rapid test results are crucial in planning.  According to WFAA, Jenkins says the free testing sites take 8 days to get results, while private labs take only 3.
