DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Texas Governor Greg Abbott updated North Texans on the state’s response to the continued spread of COVID-19 while joining The Rick Roberts Show on WBAP on Friday.
Abbott said the state’s reopening efforts are moving along smoothly as more businesses get back to work.
The Office of the Governor and the King of Country, George Strait, released a new public service announcement this week, “Write This Down, Take A Little Note.” In the PSA, the King of Country encourages all Texans to practice good hygiene, wear a face mask, and stay six feet apart from others in public.
Water parks in Texas are now able to open, drivers ed classes can resume, and as of Sunday professional sports can open at 25% occupancy at outdoor venues.
“I’m so excited about the return to sports,” said Governor Abbott. “There will be several events happening soon up there in North Texas.
Texas Motor Speedway will host an Indy Car event June 6, and the PGA’s Charles Schwab Challenge will tee off the following week at Colonial in Fort Worth. Neither event will allow spectators.
The Governor told Roberts that the state’s reopening is going “well” and encouraged Texans that he has had safe and enjoyable experiences dining at Texas restaurants in recent weeks.
“It’s fun to get out and do that,” said Gov. Abbott. “But one thing I hear from restaurants is that they need confidence from people to come out.”
Abbott stressed personal responsibility as Texans begin eating out and shopping more frequently without a COVID-19 vaccine.
“Before that time however,” said Abbott. “There will be medicines that treat people who test positive for COVID-19.”
According to the Governor, those medicines will become increasingly available by August or September. He vowed to continue to work with medical professionals to safely reopen the state.
