DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – When the NHL resumes play amid the coronavirus pandemic games could be played in Dallas.
The league announced this week that when teams hit the ice it’ll be in a playoff format without fans. All games will be played in two hub cities, one for each conference. All practices and games will be held there. Dallas is on a list of ten potential host cities. According to the Dallas Sports Commission, even without fans the local economy would benefit from hosting the games.
“We feel like this is a great opportunity that would provide economic impact,” said Dallas Sports Commission, Executive Director, Monica Paul. “And we know local businesses are hurting from COVID-19.”
Paul said the American Airlines Center is a perfect place for the league to play games and the various Stars Centers across the metroplex would provide accessible practice venues for the teams.
Other cities on the list include Chicago, Edmonton, Minneapolis, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Las Vegas, Vancouver, and L.A.
It’s not clear when the NHL will announce the hub cities or when exactly the season will start.
