Texas (WBAP/KLIF) – Gyms, offices and factories in Texas can re-open today at 25% capacity as Governor Greg Abbott announces phase 2 re-opening plans today.

That plan could allow some businesses to operate at 50 percent capacity, but bars continue to be completely shut down. Many bar owners say that they’re hurting and need to open as soon as possible with proper safety measures in place.

Yet another bar owner in Oak Lawn says that even if bars are permitted to reopen, he plans to stay close. Lee Daugherty Alexander’s says that the bar model is for socializing at in close proximity to others and maintaining social distancing would be difficult. He told WFAA-TV that he’ll remained closed until COVID-19 is more under control.

Meantime, after Gov. Greg Abbott announced Texas gyms could reopen on May 18 at 25 percent capacity, Robin Thomas, owner of Inursha Fitness said he and his wife immediately began making their plans to reopen.

Since their gym mainly serves clients who schedule one-on-one appointments with personal trainers, they plan to carefully manage how many people are in the gym at a time. Trainers have been instructed to keep social distance during sessions.
