New York (WBAP/KLIF) – New York’s Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo said his state is investigating the 85 cases of a coronavirus-related illness that is impacting children and has symptoms similar to toxic shock- syndrome instead of the usual COVID-19 symptoms.

Cuomo said during a news conference Sunday:

“Its symptoms are similar to toxic shock-like syndrome or Kawasaki’s Disease.

This presents as an inflammation of the blood vessels. Sometimes inflammation of the heart. It’s possible that these cases were coming in and were not diagnosed as related to Covid because they don’t appear as Covid. It is a situation that is taken the lives of three New Yorkers.”

New York City’s Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio said, as a father, he’s concerned.

“What it does is that the virus triggers intensive, almost overwhelming immune system response. And that actually causes harm to the body so as the body is fighting, it fights in such a manner that it causes other problems.”

Meantime, the Washington Post reports that the ailment also attacks kid’s lungs, kidneys and nervous system.

COVID-19 also “attacks the heart, weakening its muscles and disrupting its critical rhythm,” the Post reports. “It savages kidneys so badly some hospitals have run short of dialysis equipment. It crawls along the nervous system, destroying taste and smell and occasionally reaching the brain. It creates blood clots that can kill with sudden efficiency.”
