ASSOCIATED PRESS – WBAP/KLIF – Charges of murder are now laid against a white father and son in Georgia; the pair accused of shooting and killing a young African American man as he appeared to jog through their neighborhood, and in video, appeared to be struggling and then shot as he attempted to pass by the suspect’s pickup truck parked on the road.
The shooting happened almost two months ago. Social media made viral a video that is now being investigated and could result in a third arrest, pending the outcome. Ahmaud Arbery would have been 26 years old on Friday. Video shows a white man and his son in a pickup truck appearing to chase Arbery; later telling authorities they believed he was a theft or robbery suspect and they’d tried to make a citizen’s arrest.
The video appears to show Arbery jogging in the middle of the street and trying to pass the now-parked pickup truck with the men; one armed with what appears to be a rifle. As he passed, there is a struggle, three gunshots, and Arbery is shown falling to the street. The video surfaced on social media and went viral, pushing, many believe, authorities to investigate to the point of arrests and charges of murder.
Friday, joggers and runners took to the streets in several cities nationwide, including Dallas, to run in support of Ahmaud Arbery, and bring attention to racism and it’s violence.
