DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Barber shops, nail salons, tanning salons, and hair salons in North Texas were able to reopen their doors Friday as statewide coronavirus restrictions that kept them closed for months were lifted.
“This is the longest my hair has ever been,” said a Richardson said man waiting in line at his local barber shop to get a well needed trim.
“I tried to give myself a haircut a few weeks ago,” another client interrupted. “But I gave myself a mohawk by mistake.”
Lines to get into some salons were long while others remain closed. Some business owners chose to open at a later date in order to establish safety protocol.
One Dallas salon had a special guest to start the morning. Senator Ted Cruz paid a visit to Salon A La Mode, which made recent headlines for refusing to close down despite local orders. The salon’s owner, Shelley Luther, was released from jail earlier this week for ignoring a restraining order that required her salon to shut down.
“If you look at how Shelley is running her business,” said Senator Cruz. “She’s wearing a mask and I’m wearing a mask. They cleaned every seat down with disinfectant. The stylist who cut my hair cleaned the area with disinfectant before i sat down. We all wore masks.”
Meanwhile, Luther plans to continue her legal battle with the city and donate contributions made to her salon to others in the industry.
