Teach For America DFW Celebrates 400 Teachers with Gift Boxes for Teach Appreciation Week

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- Teach For America (TFA) DFW is partnering with Dallas-based company Marie Mae to honor 400 teachers with personalized gift baskets this Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4-8, 2020). Recipient teachers will have the opportunity to customize their gift basket based on how they’d like to be appreciated. “They can chose a wellness box, a productivity box, a coffee lover’s box  or a creative artistic box and all of the boxes are filled with products from businesses in the DFW area,” said Kaleigh Finn with Teach for America.

Finn said baskets will then be mailed to teachers to show appreciation for their hard work now more than ever during these times.

Many school districts in DFW are not spending money on Teacher Appreciation Week this year due to COVID-19 and budget concerns. TFA is inviting North Texans to support these teachers who have continued to go above and beyond in guiding students’ learning, while experiencing extreme interruption during COVID-19, by sponsoring a basket. To sponsor a basket, you can donate $50 here and select “Dallas Fort Worth.”  A matching campaign will be running during this time to take donations for education in Dallas-Fort Worth farther – gifts will be doubled up to $1,000.

“Not only have these teachers excelled all year-round, but they have continued to rise above the challenges posed by COVID-19 to ensure each of their students receive an outstanding education inside and outside the classroom,” said Rea Foster, Teach For America DFW’s newly named Executive Director. “These gifts in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week are just one way we can thank them for all that they have done for the students of DFW this year.”

Additionally, in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, TFA is partnering with local Dallas fashion designer Abi Ferrin. For every “Fashion Face Mask” purchased on the Abi Ferrin website during Teacher Appreciation Week, Abi Ferrin will donate one mask to a TFA teacher. Individuals can also purchase a mask and donate it to a TFA teacher, rather than having it shipped to themselves. Just denote “Donate my purchase to TFA” in the purchase notes. This giveback effort not only supports TFA and a local fashion designer, but supports Love & Freedom — a nonprofit organization offering services for at-risk women.
