WASHINGTON, D.C. (WBAP/KLIF) – A report by West Virginia’s Governor that two U.S. National Guard members from that state are reported to have died after being taken to an area hospital in critical condition is now retracted; the two Guardsmen are instead now reported as critically wounded. The shooting suspect is in custody and reported to be gravely wounded,

The shooting is reported to have occured near a D.C. transit station, on the road near 17th or 18th and I Streets.

National Guard troops from several states have been in the nation’s capital for months, as part of President Donald Trump’s anti-crime crackdown in the capital. Local politicians and D.C.’s Metro Police Department protested, citing the city’s sharply lower crime figures. President Trump says he’s ordering another 500 Guard troops into Washington D.C. in response to today’s shootings.
