Israel Says It Has Received Another Set of Human Remains From Militants in Gaza

Palestinian men look at the body bags containing the remains of members of the Abu Hamda and the Abu Yousef families after they were recovered by the Civil Defence forces from the Al-Aqsa Hospital, in Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip on November 25, 2025. Approximately 14 members of the two families were killed when Israeli warplanes targeted their home in the Maghazi refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip on December 24, 2023. The war was sparked by Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, which resulted in the deaths of 1,221 people. Israel’s retaliatory assault on Gaza has killed at least 69,700 people, according to figures from the health ministry that the UN considers reliable. (Photo by Bashar Taleb / AFP via Getty Images)

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — Israel says it has received human remains that Palestinian militants handed over to the Red Cross, but it is not immediately clear if they are one of three hostages remaining in the Gaza Strip. The office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday the remains will be taken for forensic testing and identification. The handover is the latest under the fragile ceasefire that took effect on Oct. 10. Palestinian Islamic Jihad said it found the remains earlier this week in Nuseirat, a refugee camp in central Gaza. The remaining hostages yet to be handed over are two Israelis and a man from Thailand.
