(WBAP/KLIF) – AUSTIN, TX – On Saturday, the proposed new congressional map cleared a hurdle in the state house, and passed out of the committee on redistricting. Twelve Republicans voted yes, while six Democrats voted no. The new district lines could be considered by the entire state house as soon as Tuesday.
Several members of congress are concerned that the redistricting effort is about giving the Republican party more power, and the potential to win five additional seats in the US House. House Democrats have not ruled out breaking quorum by potentially leaving the state to try to prevent or at least delay that vote.
