(WBAP/KLIF)- FORT WORTH, TX – On Tuesday night, the Fort Worth ISD School Board approved a new personal device policy for students in compliance with House Bill 1481, which is the new state law banning personal communication devices in schools. The new policy will require students to turn off and put away personal communication devices during the school day. Personal communication devices include cell phones, smart watches, wireless ear buds, tablets, gaming devices, blue tooth headphones, or any device used for texting, calling, social media, or streaming. Students in violation of the policy will have their devices confiscated, and may face disciplinary action.

The district hopes the new law will have a positive impact on students’ learning environments by drastically reducing distractions in the classroom. In accordance with state law, students will be able to use the prohibited technology if needed for a 504 plan, or required for medical purposes with a note from a qualified physician.
