Marines Take Over Some Security In LA While Cities Across US Prep For ‘No Kings’ Rallies

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – JUNE 10: Police officers pursue people roaming the streets after a nighttime curfew takes effect while protests continue in Los Angeles in response to a series of immigration raids on June 10, 2025 in Los Angeles, California. Protests escalated after President Donald Trump authorized military forces to protect federal property against the wishes of city and state officials who say that the Los Angeles police have the expertise and decades of experience to handle large protest crowds. National Guard troops have so far played no role in quelling violence in the streets, according to Mayor Bass, but are stationed to guard federal buildings. (Photo by David McNew/Getty Images)

LOS ANGELES (AP) — After a week of protests over federal immigration raids, about 200 Marines have moved into Los Angeles to guard a federal building and personnel in the city. Meanwhile, communities across the country are prepping for what’s anticipated to be a nationwide wave of large-scale demonstrations against President Donald Trump’s polices this weekend. The troops with rifles, combat gear and walkie-talkies took over some posts from National Guard members who were deployed to the city after the protests erupted last week. Those protests sparked dozens more over several days around the country, with some leading to clashes with police and hundreds of arrests.
