Trial for Teen Accused in Fatal Shooting at Arlington’s Lamar High School to Begin This Week

TARRANT COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Jury selection is set to begin on Monday in the trial for a 16 year old charged with killing another teen at Lamar High School in Arlington on March 20.

Tarrant County Juvenile Judge Alex Kim put the case on hold during jury selection last month after ordering the suspect to undergo a mental evaluation.

The suspect was eventually cleared for trial.

The defendant was fifteen at the time of the murder. Prosecutors said he fatally shot 16-year-old Ja’shawn Poirier and grazed another student outside the school.

The case is being tried in the Tarrant County juvenile justice center. The defendant’s name is not being released because he is a minor.

The judge denied prosecutors’ request to try the defendant in adult court.

If jury selection goes on as scheduled, testimony is expected to begin on Tuesday.
