Plans for High Speed Rail Move Forward

(Texas Central Partners)

ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF) – After decades of talks the plan for high speed rail between Dallas and Houston is coming to fruition. Amtrak and Texas Central Partners have agreed to work together to raise funding for the bullet train. The route will have a station in the Bryan-College Station area.

Dan Lamers with the North Central Texas Council of Governments says “if plans move forward as expected construction on the project could begin in the next 12 to 18 months and the entire project could be finished in 5-6 years.”

Lamers adds NCTCOG is working on a separate rail project between Dallas, Arlington and Ft. Worth that would run along Interstate 30. The DFW High-Speed Transportation Connections Study will move into the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) portion of Phase 2 in September, focusing on route alignment, possible station locations and potential social and environmental impacts. This environmental process is expected to be completed in a year and will include opportunities for the public to provide input on priorities.

The DFW line would eventually connect with the Dallas to Houston service.
