(WBAP/KLIF) — The North Texas heat is fattening the bottom line for some in DFW. Lines at snow cone stands, convenience stores and ice cream shops have gotten quite long over the past few weeks.

It’s the perfect time of year to be in business as an ice vendor, as sales have skyrocketed. The best part of the entire deal is the overhead…frozen H2O is relatively cheap to produce. According to Angela who manages a QuickTrip in Irving, when temperatures are in the triple digits business is non-stop. She also says the best part about the excessive heat is the financial benefit the increased ice sales bring to the store.
Many convenience stores are running low on inventory or assigning employees to package ice as a primary responsibility. Some grocery stores have even had empty ice freezers for a day or two until another shipment arrives. Angela says sales for packaged ice at her QuickTrip store have doubled. She says customers frequently stop in for Gatorade, water, and, of course, ice. It’s not uncommon for truck drivers to get 10 cups of ice before the workday starts. Vendors that supply ice to grocery stores and gas stations are also being pushed to the brink to keep pace with demand.
