Tarrant Area Food Bank Receives $100,000 Grant

(WBAP/KLIF) — One major DFW grocer has made a sizeable donation to help prevent food-insecurity among children.

Tarrant Area Food Bank (TAFB) CEO Julie Butner says the Albertsons-Tom Thumb Foundation’s Nourishing Neighbors initiative has donated $100,000 to two Food Bank programs, the summer Breakfast for Kids program and the Ready to Learn in-school pantries. Butner says they hope to double the 61 participating school pantries over the next year, as TAFB teams up with Fort Worth ISD to operate Ready to Learn in-school pantries year-round.

The Breakfast for Kids program provides meals when school is out and kids are without free or reduced meals. Butner says Albertsons and Tom Thumb are one of their top retail partners that provides both monetary and food donations in the food bank’s 13-county service area.

Over 314,000 kids are at risk of being hungry each summer.
