Big Bend National Park (WBAP/KLIF) – Two tourists from Florida died of apparent heat prostration late Friday while hiking in Big Bend National Park. Three of them, a 31 year old man and his two stepsons, were on the Marufo Vega Trail when the temperature hit 119 degrees. When the 14 year old stepson was overcome, and collapsed, the stepfather decided to hike back to his vehicle to fcall for help. When he didn’t return the 21 year old tried to carry his brother back to the trailhead, but was unable to do so. Park rangers found the in the evening; one dead, one barely alive. An hour or so later they found the stepfather, dead in the wreckage of his vehicle. He had driven over an embankment. The area they were hiking in is extremely rugged, and is known to be the hottest part of Big Bend National Park.
