AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – A venue is set in suspended Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s outstanding securities fraud case.

AG Paxton will be tried on securities-fraud charges in Harris county.

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals selected Harris County over Collin County after ruling the judge who originally set the trial there was right to do so.

“Judge Gallagher had constitutional ad statutory authority to preside when he ordered the change of venue to Harris County,” the court ruling reads. “The district court in Harris County has no authority to void it.”

The charges stem from Collin County, where Paxton calls home, and have lingered since 2015. It’s not clear when that case will move forward.

Meanwhile, Paxton is facing an impeachment trial in the Texas Senate later this summer. He’s suspended until there’s a verdict in that trial. Paxton is accused of misusing his power to benefit a campaign donor. He denies the accusations.
