DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – A DFW based entrepreneur is launching an app that allows fans to pay college athletes directly.
The NIL world in college sports lets players be paid for use of their name, image and likeness. But in many cases, its the most popular athletes from the biggest schools who are getting the deals.
“It allows fans to direct pay student athletes in an NCAA compliant manner,” sand myNILpay CEO Brent Chapman. “You pick whoever you want to support with a minimum of $20, and send them the money.”
The app has been called the Venmo of NIL, but Chapman said it’s different because the company provides a digital signature, or digital art. While the purpose of the app is to pay the player, the exchange of the digital art allows the app to meet NCAA qualifications.
“If you’re sitting at the bar and you’re like that was a great shot, you can send them $20 bucks.”
Chapman said the intent is to give the Division 2 or Division 3 athletes a chance to make some money. He runs the app out of the DFW metroplex.
