UPDATE 11:15 a.m.: Sunnyvale Police announced they caught the suspect after an hours-long search.

The department said it will turn the suspect over to the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Department shortly.

SUNNYVALE (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Classes are delayed by two hours in Sunnyvale ISD as the search continues for a man who led police on a chase in a stolen car in parts of Dallas and Kaufman Counties overnight.

The pursuit started in Terrell just after 6 p.m. Thursday and ended in Sunnyvale early Friday morning.

Investigators said the man fired at officers before running off into a wooded area.

Mike Forbes with our media partner WFAA TV was at the scene.

“Along Jobson Road police were locating shell casings. Right now, they have the drone up and probably around 3:30 this morning is when Air One helicopter left the area,” he said.

Authorities arrested a second person in the car.

“The person taken into custody was not the shooter. Here we are over twelve hours into this thing and he’s still wanted,” said Forbes.

The manhunt has impacted the Sunnyvale school district. Just before 6 a.m., the district announced that classes would be pushed back to “allow police to continue their search and bring resolution to the situation without the traffic associated with school start.”

The school district said police were “confident of the suspect’s location but he has not yet been brought into custody. “

Residents who live in the Meadowlake subdivision area of Jobson Road and the north service road of Highway 80 were told to shelter in place and lock their doors.
