Damage Assessment Underway Across North Texas in the Aftermath of Severe Storms

La Azteca Meat Market in Little Elm

NORTH TEXAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – North Texas home and business owners are assessing damage Friday after severe storms wreaked havoc across the region Thursday night.

The storm system brought heavy rain, lightning, hurricane-force winds and large hail causing damage to buildings, uprooting trees, strewing debris across neighborhoods and downing power lines.

At the height of the storm, almost 295,000 Oncor customers were out of power. Those numbers have decreased significantly throughout the day.

A possible tornado touched down in Weatherford, about 30 miles west of Fort Worth. Residents in the Hopkins County city of Pickton said they spotted a possible tornado.

A rotating storm cloud, or “Gustnado,” was recorded on video in the Denton County town of Justin, about 40 miles north of Dallas.

An unconfirmed tornado was reported about 100 miles east of DFW.

In Little Elm, the La Azteca Meat Market façade was destroyed about the same time a possible water spout was reported on Lake Lewisville.

The market sits along West El Dorado Parkway on a peninsula of land that juts into the lake.

There were no reports of injuries.

The Safe Harbor Pier 121 Marina and Lake Lewisville was also hit hard by the storms. The marina structure suffered damage along with dozens of boats.
