Dallas Police Chief Urges Peaceful Tyre Nichols Protests

(WBAP/KLIF) — Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia released a video message on social media with his reaction to watching body-cam footage of the beating death of Tyre Nichols. After characterizing the actions of the five Memphis officers as “despicable” and not representative of thousands of honorable police officers across the nation, he specifically cited the integrity of the Dallas Police Department.

Garcia stated that the death of Nichols was a senseless tragedy and that the 29-year-old should still be here today with his family and loved ones. He also indicated that he was “ashamed and angered by the actions of the officers” in the Memphis Police Department and condoned the actions of their police chief to fire them.

Garcia indicated that residents are welcome to peacefully protest and hold vigils around the city of Dallas in light of the death of Tyre Nichols. However, he warned that violence and rioting will not be tolerated and dealt with appropriately to protect life and property throughout the city.

Garcia closed his statement by saying his department stands with the city of Memphis and the family of Tyre Nichols as justice is sought.
