DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Dallas Fire Rescue investigators said arson is the cause of a fire that erupted at an apartment complex in southeast Oak Cliff early Thursday morning.
A woman, her son and another man are now hospitalized with injuries. The woman is facing life-threatening burns.
DFR said firefighters responded to the fire at the Villas of Sorento Apartments at 3131 Stag Road around 12:17 a.m.
When crews arrived, there were flames shooting from the second floor of the two-story building. Firefighters put out the blaze within twenty minutes of arrival.
Marine veteran Tiashmon Clark told our media partner WFAA TV he was pulling into the parking lot and saw a woman running from the apartment on fire.
“She got over here to the grass. She started rolling. I pulled my sweater off and started putting it out with my sweater,” he said.
Clark also said he saw the woman’s son jump from a second-story window to safety. The three occupants were rushed to a local hospital.
Jason Evans, DFR Public Information Officer, said the unidentified man admitted to starting the fire at the hospital and was read his Miranda Rights.
He too remains hospitalized for treatment of his injuries.
The American Red Cross is working with the apartment managers to help those who are displaced.
