(WBAP/KLIF) — Residents opposing the demolition of a Fort Worth strip mall are making their voices heard. The Fort Worth City Council decides on November 8th on whether or not to allow a strip mall to be demolished along 7th Street.

Kimco Realty received unanimous approval from the Fort Worth Zoning Commission to knock down several stores in Montgomery Wards Plaza, including Office Depot, Pet Smart and Five Below, in order to construct an apartment complex. The Realty giant hs garnered support from over two dozen residents for the project. However, a number of residents in the neighborhood oppose the plan to knock down the shopping mall to make way for condos. One man is concerned that there will be a negative impact to the local economy and a loss of anywhere between 100 and 200 local jobs. Another couple was frustrated that their Pet Smart store would be closing, forcing them to drive a greater distance for pet supplies. Still another man was concerned about the vital shopping center for residents and local businesses disappearing.
Residents have been petitioning the city to nix the plan. The Fort Worth City Council votes on the plan November 8th.
