DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – A commemorative coin has landed a Dallas Police Officer in some trouble.
The Officer is on administrative leave after DPD Chief Eddie Garcia says that Officer posted an image of a challenge coin on the Dallas police association member website. It was offered for sale.
“It’s a large coin that often depicts Police Departments and something that’s meaningful.” said Chief Garcia. “This one did not.”
Terrance Hopkins with the Black Police Officers Association says the coin showed a character named dough boy that symbolizes drug dealing in the black community.
“This act has been considered blatantly racist,” Hopkins insisted.
The coin was meant to commemorate the South Central Dallas Police Division. An investigation is underway.
