(WBAP/KLIF) – The race for Texas Governor is focused this week on the Texas trigger law that, as of Thursday, bans most abortions in the Lone Star State.
Democratic candidate for Texas Governor Beto O’Rourke released the first two TV ads of his campaign on Thursday which focus heavily on holding Governor Greg Abbott accountable for enacting the law.
“Every Texan needs to know that Greg Abbott chose to outlaw abortion beginning at conception with no exception for rape or incest,” said O’Rourke. “The only way to overcome the most extreme abortion ban in America is to defeat the man who signed it, win political power and fight to restore a woman’s freedom to make her own decisions about her own body, health care and future.”
The two 30-second ads began airing statewide on digital and TV on Thursday. They will air on TV in seven markets during the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans pre-season games.
Governor Abbott’s campaign unveiled an advertisement of its own on Thursday that focuses on O’Rourke’s abortion policies.
“Beto O’Rourke’s extreme views on abortion, which includes support for third trimester abortion, partial-birth abortion and even opposing life-saving care for babies who survive abortion, are not only out-of-touch with Texas, they’re out-of-touch with basic humanity.” Abbott Spokesperson, Renae Eze said.
