North Texas waits for Water to Recede after Flooding; Dallas County Issues Disaster Declaration

(WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins has issued a disaster declaration for Dallas County as some areas of the eastern portion of Dallas County received up to 15 inches of rain in less than 24 hours.

Elsewhere, North Texans are dealing with the aftermath of heavy rain falling consistently in a short period of time.

Rain fell Sunday night into Monday afternoon in Dallas, Tarrant, and other North and Central Texas counties. Events were canceled, and some schools delayed start times.

Monday afternoon crews were draining flooded intersections.

Some parts of the metroplex saw more than 10 inches of rain fell in under 12 hours. Shelters have been set up for residents in Mesquite and Balch Springs.

The Balch Springs Civic Center and the Balch Spring Rec-center are open for shelter.

A number of roads across DFW remained closed late Monday afternoon due to high water.
