NORTH TEXAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The school year starts for most North Texas districts later this month and the need to help families who are experiencing food insecurity remains high.
The Tarrant Area Food Bank continues to meet that need and will be adding locations and expanding hours to allow for more accessibility for families.
The mobile food distribution that had been taking place at the W.G. Thomas Coliseum in Haltom City on Fridays has been moved to a permanent location at the Met Church at 11301 North Riverside Drive in Fort Worth.
It will be held every Saturday from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m.
TAFB will continue its monthly Off the Dock food distribution on Sunday, August 7, at their Fort Worth Distribution Center at 2600 Cullen Street. The event is from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
The food bank’s new location at 112 Winners Circle in Weatherford, the Mission Market has also expanded its days of operation.
Patrons can visit the grocery-store like facility Monday and Thursday from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. and on Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
In a statement, TAFB said residents experiencing food insecurity shows no signs of slowing down due to risings costs from inflation.
“Many families in the Tarrant area are facing food insecurity, some for the first time, and, in fact, levels of need in the 13-county communities TAFB serves, have reached numbers that are equal if not greater than what was seen at the height of the pandemic.”
