Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – A gunfight erupted on a Dallas freeway early Saturday morning. Bedford police officers were chasing a drunk driving suspect eastbound on Highway 183 when they say the suspect began shooting at them. Shortly past the 183 /I-35E merge the suspect stopped, jumped out of his car, and fired a number of shots wildly at police. He hit several police cars, as well as other vehicles that just happened to be in the area, and a bystander who was a passenger in a car that had stopped behind one of the police cars. A Bedford officer shot and killed the gunman, and a passenger in the gunman’s car surrendered. The wounded bystander was hospitalized, and is expected to recover.
Southbound I-35E was closed for hours while police collected evidence, and investigated.
