Much Anticipated Uvalde School Shooting Video Released Sparking Criticism from Some

Austin (WBAP/ILIF) – After a Texas House committee investigating the Uvalde school massacre on Tuesday announced that it would show surveillance video from the Uvalde massacre to residents this Sunday came word that the Austin-American Statesman and KVUE-TV had obtained the footage that quickly went viral.

The disturbing video captures moments outside the school when the gunman was firing shots; the moment he entered the building and when he fired multiple rounds after walking down a hallway and entering a classroom. At one point a student exiting a restroom witnessed the gunman holding his gun outside a classroom, at which point the student ran back into the restroom.

The 77-minute footage also captures officers entering the hallway about 3 minutes after the gunman and making their way down a hallway before eventually retreating when more shots are fired. Multiple officers police waited over an hour before confronting the gunman.

The release of the video has sparked outrage from the mayor of Uvalede. During a city council meeting last night Mayor Don McLaughlin called it a chicken’ move to released the video before families had a chance to see it.

“This video needed to be released, but the families should’ve gotten to see it first, McLaughlin said.”

Some residents in the audience yelled out that criticism should be directed at police officers “who did nothing.” Watch here.

Texas DPS Director Steven McCraw also released a statement Tuesday regarding the video:

“I am deeply disappointed this video was released before all of the families who were impacted that day and the community of Uvalde had the opportunity to view it as part of Chairman Dustin Burrows’ plan. Those most affected should have been among the first to see it. As I stated during my testimony before the Senate Special Committee to Protect All Texans, this video provides horrifying evidence that the law enforcement response to the attack at Robb Elementary on May 24 was an abject failure. In law enforcement, when one officer fails, we all fail.”
