Austin, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – The Texas Department of Transportation is ramping up to add charging stations for electric cars every 50 miles on most interstates across the state.

In details laid out in a draft plan of the project, some $408 million in federal infrastructure funds will be used to build enough charging stations to support 1-million electric vehicles.

TxDOT’s 5-year plan would create a network of chargers throughout the state, starting along main corridors and interstate highways before branching out to rural areas.

The ultimate goal is to have charging stations every 50 miles along most non-business interstate routes.
