Facility at the Center of Baby Formula Shortage Shuts Down Again 11 Days After Reopening

Sturgis, Michigan (WBAP/KLIF) – There is another setback in the rush to get baby formula back on store shelves.

The Abbott Laboratories plant in Michigan, which is the epicenter of the nation’s baby formula crisis is shutdown again; this time due to severe storms in southwestern Michigan that flooded areas of its Sturgis, Michigan plant.

Contamination issues at the plant in February triggered a massive recall of some of Abbott’s formulas. The plant reopened to resume production just 11 days ago.

The facility makes the EleCare specialty formula for babies with milk allergies. The new shutdown is likely to delay production for several weeks.
