Washington (WBAP/KLIF) – A second televised hearing of the US House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot will take place this morning beginning at 9am Central.
The committee says today’s hearing will focus on former President Donald Trump‘s “effort to spread false and fraudulent information” after the 2020 election.
The former Trump campaign manager is one of 5 witnesses expected to testify today. Bill Stepien. According to a subpoena issue by the committee last fall, Stepien oversaw the “conversion” of Trump’s presidential campaign to a “Stop the Steal” effort. Also scheduled to testify is former Fox news staffer Chris Stirewalt will testify.
Last week, Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, the Republican vice chair of the committee, said lawmakers will present evidence during the second hearing showing that Trump “engaged in a massive effort to spread false and fraudulent information” that the election had been stolen — even though advisers and allies told him repeatedly he had lost.
Panel Chairperson Rep. Bennie Thompson said Thursday that Trump was at the center of the conspiracy that the 2020 election was stolen from him and then “spurred a mob of domestic enemies of the Constitution to march down to the Capitol and subvert American democracy.”
