Illegal machine gun kits were once imported from China, but can now be made at home with a 3D printer.
ATF agents and local police say they are seeing thousands of illegal machine gun converter kits, including the one used in the Deep Ellum shooting that wounded five people, last month. ATF agent Jeff Boshek says the device makes a semi-automatic into a fully automatic, which can discharge an entire magazine in one second. It is illegal to possess one of the devices which carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

According to WFAA, Boshek says the device is a small piece of plastic that installs on the back of a semi-automatic.
