PLANO (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The North Texas Food Bank is preparing for one of the most critical times of the year when schools let out and many families are left to make tough choices about food.
The organization’s Liana Solis said the summer season brings on added hardships for parents and the ongoing inflation increases those pressures.
“Electricity bills are much higher and they’re having to make those payments. They might not be able to provide for themselves or their families. Especially with kids out of school and they don’t have access to those free or reduced meals that they usually do,” she said.
Solis said that’s why partnerships like the ongoing drive with the David M. Crowley Foundation are so important.
Right now, the foundation will match each dollar donated up to $425,000.
“Normally every one dollar equals three meals. Now, every dollar will go twice as far so we can provide for somebody who really needs it,” said Solis.
