Undated (WBAP/KLIF)- Baby formula-maker Abbott Laboratories could reopen a Michigan plant – shut down in February due to a recall – within the next 2 wks. FDA approval is pending.

The voluntary recall and closure has led to a national shortage of baby formula, but Abbott said on its website that consumers won’t see products on shelves for about 6-to 8 weeks after the plant reopens.

The recall involved four complaints of Cronobacter Sakazakii [cron-oh-back-ter sahk-ah-zahk-ee-eye] — a common environmental bacteria — in infants who consumed infant formulas produced in the plant. Two infants got sick; two tragically passed away.
