DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- The Salvation Army of North Texas is doing several things to help those in need this holiday season.
The nonprofit launches several programs for the holidays. First the Angel Tree Program so north texas children in need can still open a gift on Christmas morning.
They had closer to 30,000 North Texas children registered and there’s 9,000 left to be “adopted”.
Salvation Army’s Major Bethany Hawks says “adopting” a child means picking a child to shop for. She said for many, the gifts they receive from angel tree are the only gifts they will receive on Christmas morning.
“More than ever in the last couple of years with the pandemic we need to bring hope to children who are in need. We want that Christmas joy to be brought into the lives of the children we serve in North Texas,” said Hawks.
You can adopt an angel online an Adopt an Angel online at salarmy.us/ntxangel and drop off your gift through a drive-thru drop-off on December 3 or 4 between 11:30AM – 5:30PM at multiple sites across North Texas.
Another popular initiative from the Salvation Army is the red Kettle Cmpaign.
Hawks said volunteers are needed to help ring the bell this holiday season and get donations. She said the money donated in the kettles help to supply utilities, rent assistance and food to people year round.
“We need to make sure hope marches on in light of the craziness that is gong on in the world around us,” she said.
