State Representative Michelle Beckley of Carrollton Announces Run for Lieutenant Governor

AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF News) – The list of candidates challenging Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick’s re-election bid continues to grow.

State Representative Michelle Beckley of Carrollton announced that’s she’s running for the seat Tuesday morning.

Beckley said her top priorities would be expanding Medicaid, fixing issues with the state’s beleaguered power grid and fully funding public education.

The Democrat is also known for her support for legalizing marijuana, abortion rights and her call for stricter gun laws in the wake of the deadly mass shootings in El Paso and Midland/Odessa in 2019.

“I am running for Lieutenant Governor because politicians are putting ideology ahead of results that matter to Texans, ” said Beckley in her announcement statement.

Beckley joins the race against Patrick that includes political commentator Matthew Dowd and Houston accountant Mike Collier.
